An Airbnb in Baltimore, Tuesday Afternoon
Sparkle had given the island's weirdness one night! One.
One was enough. The message that he'd left for Atton in the wake of that night was dubiously coherent and had been left without a single breath taken between words, and Sparkle could not get off the island fast enough after being caught out after the airhorns sounded, thank you very, very much. Sparkle had put up with years of Fandom horror, but very little could prepare a guy for the things he'd seen, stabbed, and screamed at while trying to make his way to somewhere that didn't involve...
... those.
It was a frazzled, tipsy Sparkle, wielding a tupperware container with a fish in it in one hand and half a bottle of Fireball in the other, who made his way up to the Airbnb that Hernando had booked and who knocked on the door. With his face.
There might have been sobbing involved? Or it could've just been frazzled ranting in between bouts of quiet screeching. It was hard to tell.
Sparkles were not made for Silent Hills.

Stroking his hair, Hernando kissed his forehead. "This is you squirming all around and being giddy," he corrected with a smile, "but it's nice that you're relaxing even if you aren't quite resting yet. That's okay too. Giddy, giggly, smiling Sparkles are incredibly pretty people. I definitely don't mind this."

Or a fifth or a sixth or...
"I'm gonna crash so bad when I do, holy fuck."
He did not seem to mind that right at that moment, nah.

"Baby," Hernando sighed, "You are going to crash so bad because you need to sleep, sweetheart." And it would involve nightmares and if he was really lucky it wouldn't involve a sudden panic fit that did see Sparkle in the bathroom obsessively cleaning the grout and sobbing at the same time. "I'll be here," Hernando promised, "I'll be here and holding you, okay? And we are not turning the lights off."

Nice to fall alseep to, at least.
Waking up might involve sobbing and struggling and freaking the fuck out, might be the result of one big ugly night terror. But at least he wouldn't be dealing with it alone.

"Mmmmmhmmm," Hernando purred, snuggling him in close. Yeah, he knew how Sparkle was likely to wake up. It wasn't their first rodeo with that, either. Not on either side of it. But it was nice to pretend, and to know that eventually the panic and the nightmares would fade for awhile.
"Someone's getting sleepy already," Hernando teased him quietly, "Go to sleep if you can, baby."
no subject
... Better, now.
"Okay," he mumbled, and sighed, and folded himself around Hernando for dear life. "Promise not to tell Dani?"
It made sense in his head. These pills weren't meant to be sleep aids, after all.

Hernando adjusted himself into a better position to give Sparkle all the skin contact he wanted. "The only thing I am going to tell Dani is 'thank you'," he assured Sparkle and stroked his hair. Smiled a little, "Might tell her how giggly you got, describe how your eyes were shining and your dimples were showing when you smile. She might like to hear that part."
She would.. definitely.. like to hear that part.
His smile went a little wicked and he murmured, "Tell her how we were laying here naked on the bed, your body entirely covering mine while you were wriggling and happy and giggling.. What do you think she'd think of that, baby?"
He knew what she'd think of that.

A very vivid mental image.
And then Sparkle was making a "Mrrroowrrr," sound, followed by a giggle, followed by a moment taken to kiss Hernando's face a few times. Because, yup.

Hernando chuckled and kept turning his face to catch more kisses. "Giggling, silly kitten," he murmured, cuddling him more, "Close your eyes, silly kitty. See if you can sleep."
no subject
"... You'll stay?"
As if Hernando could get out from under him without waking him up.
no subject
"You're stuck with me," Hernando assured him, nuzzling his hair and kissing his head, "I'll be here. I'm keeping you. I've got you."
As if Hernando would try to get out from under him. He would lay there all damn night if it brought Sparkle even a few moments of sleep and rest.

And then, finally, he let himself actually begin to relax.
It wouldn't be long before he fell asleep.

Hernando sifted his fingers through Sparkle's hair again to gently move it out of his face. Pressed a kiss to his forehead and cuddled him. Listened to him breathe as he relaxed and started heading toward sleep. Listened to his heart beating, feeling it against his own chest.
Silently thankful that, all things considered, this hadn't been that bad. It was definitely bad, yes, but Sparkle was in a place where he could relax, could let himself try to sleep. There had been times when he couldn't. They'd both had nights like that. Sparkle wasn't twitching or flinching at every noise, every touch. The wounds on his arms were ugly, they'd scar, but they weren't life-threatening. Sparkle had made it home. That was the important thing. They could and would deal with the fallout like they always did. Sparkle had made it home alive and in one piece. As long as those two things were true, Hernando could deal with anything.
Hernando let his own breathing remain calm and steady, pressing another small kiss against Sparkle's hair. Carefully so he didn't distract him from trying to sleep.
