The Causeway, Sunday Evening

Sparkle bounced on his toes as he waited to meet Hernando on the Causeway for their date. He'd... kind of panicked. Being given a couple of days to come up with something good given the date that Hernando had arranged had left him flailing, and now he was second-guessing basically everything, ever. But it was too late to back out now, even if his choice for the evening was less about art and more about ambiance.

He desperately hoped that the place wouldn't be swamped with kids.

He also hadn't even gotten as far as making dinner reservations.

Tonight was going to be interesting, okay?

Having been given no direction, Hernando had dressed casually in black slacks and a blue and white plaid button shirt. The weather was cold enough that he'd added a short black jacket atop.

He smiled when Sparkle came into view. He hoped the bouncing was excitement and not nerves.

Hernando walked up to Sparkle. Close enough that he could nuzzle his nose and murmur, "Hello."

What if it was both excitement and nerves? Was it allowed to be both?

Either way, Sparkle was leaning in for that nuzzle.

"Well, hi there," he said with a grin. "Fancy meeting you here."

Sparkle, that wasn't actually clever.

Hernando grinned back and said equally as foolishly, "Such a surprise! Well, since we are both here.."

He leaned in to kiss Sparkle hello and also to reassure him. Certainly not simply because he enjoyed kissing him.

"What plans have you?"

"I, uh, I got as far as, 'fish are cool, right?' and figured we could take in the aquarium," Sparkle offered. "But if, like, a guppy kicked your puppy in your childhood or something, we can go somewhere else?"

The lighting had looked nice in there. And dolphins. Everybody liked those, right?

"I had neither guppies nor puppies," Hernando assured him, "Plus I feel it would be difficult for a fish with no legs to kick a puppy even if it were able to stay out of water long enough."

He nuzzled Sparkle again, smiling, "The aquarium sounds nice. I haven't been there yet. Have you?"

Relax, Sparkle. Hernando would have a great time as long as you were with him.

"You know, I haven't?" Sparkle nuzzled right on in some more. "I mean, I've been to the zoo, the zoo's nice, but the aquarium? Nah. If it's too full of, like, kids or whatever, we can just turn right back around and bail, though. Play it by ear?"

He'd seriously been overthinking this to the point of totally stagnating, yes.

Sparkle froze up.

They were never going to make it to the aquarium because Hernando was perfectly happy standing right here nuzzling Sparkle.

"Miss the opportunity to see you in the center of a mob of small children? Sparkle, please. I would take pictures of this," Hernando teased him gently.

[myownface]

"Can't help it," Sparkle laughed softly. "I really like kids."

And tended to get mobbed by them on the regular, funnily enough.

"Maybe next time I'll volunteer us to read stories to kids at the library or something instead."

[hernando_fuentes]

"Why should you help it?" Hernando asked, nuzzling him again, "That is a good trait to have. Kindness to children."

He smiled, "I would not object to that. I could even read to them in Spanish for the ones who speak not such good English."

[myownface]

Sparkle blinked a little.

"Oh, they probably do that here, don't they? I mean, on the mainland? I can look into that for... like... a Saturday or something, if you want? I bet they're always looking for volunteers."

[hernando_fuentes]

"I have no objection to this plan," Hernando agreed. "I warn you, I am terrible with children."

Spoiled them terribly.

[myownface]

"That's fine," Sparkle replied, grinning. "I'll be there to keep you in line."

[hernando_fuentes]

"Then the day would not be wasted," Hernando said with a smile.

He glanced toward the parking lot. "Are we walking or taking a cab?"

Or staying here. You know. Kissing for the next six hours. Also a valid plan.

Sparkle was so tempted to just angle for that one and not spend the next six hours worrying about whether or not taking the guy you liked to kiss out to stare at sharks was weird.

"It's looking like rain," Sparkle offered. "I'm thinking cab. And then we can do the aquarium thing and... think about food from there? Something close, so we don't get too wet from point a to b?"

[hernando_fuentes]

"Sounds like fun," Hernando agreed with a smile. "Though I think seafood is not appropriate for a meal after watching their kindred swimming around."

[myownface]

"So the crab place nearby is right out," Sparkle laughed, reaching into his pocket to pull out his phone. "Good to know. There's a Brazilian steakhouse?"

And a Cheesecake Factory, and a Hard Rock Cafe...

Sparkle's panic had involved cycling through all the options about ten times and then just deciding to wing it, yes.

"Right out," Hernando agreed with a chuckle, "I do not want to watch adorable crabs in an aquarium and then go eat their cousins. I would feel bad."

He let Sparkle make the call but he didn't make it easy for him. There was one whole ear free and Hernando was definitely not done with the nuzzling.

"Perhaps wait and see how hungry we are afterward, yes?" he murmured softly.

As an excuse to let his breath move along Sparkle's skin.

"Waiting and seeing works," Sparkle agreed, and then gave a happy little wiggle - Hernando was a fantastic distraction - before placing the call.

And trying like heck to not squirm around too much when he asked for a cab and gave the address.

And then breaking down in little snickers the moment he hung up again, turning to wrap his arms around Hernando and pull him close so that he could kiss him, dammit. Because brattiness earned kisses, apparently.

Hernando's arms went around Sparkle's waist and he leaned into that kissing right around a small smirk.

"How long do we have?" he murmured.

[myownface]

"Ten, fifteen minutes," Sparkle supplied, smirking right back. "Why, were you thinking about another backrub?"

He had to tease, so help him.

[hernando_fuentes]

Hernando laughed a little, "Sparkle, please. The ground is cold and wet and the concrete railing is undoubtedly the same. Where would I lie you down for that?"

Which made him think about it. He didn't necessarily have to put Sparkle in a prone position to..

There went his hands, moving over Sparkle's back and sliding against the muscles along his spine.

Sparkle met that with a blink. And then an, "Ooo."

And then an "Ooooo."

And then a little grin.

"See, no wet concrete required..."

[hernando_fuentes]

"Mmmmhm," Hernando purred, "I said I was patient. That does not mean I am not also creative."

[myownface]

"You're welcome to demonstrate your creativity anytime."

Careful, Sparkle. Don't make that sound too much like a dare.

[hernando_fuentes]

"When it comes to helping you relax perhaps I shall," Hernando answered with a note of amusement.

Sparkle needed to relax more, in Hernando's estimation.

He smiled a little, "Did you have a puppet show?"
